When Stephen reached out to me looking for a Malibu wedding officiant, he explained that he and his partner Paul wanted to elope in LA but they did not want a “normal” wedding. They were flying out of the UK to come and celebrate in Malibu so they could just have a handful of their nearest and dearest friends without all the fuss and stress of a wedding.

“Can you do that?” he asked me.

“You can get married in your pajamas sipping mimosas if you want to, love,” I said. “It’s your day!”

“Really?!”

Really.

So they chose to not wear pajamas, but close enough. 😉

Malibu Wedding Officiant

When they originally booked my Malibu wedding officiant services, they chose my I Do service. They were going to have a dear friend photograph, but then they saw the work of my photographer Keri Rico, they really fell in love. We chatted about the possibility of upgrading them when I pointed out that even though their friend is a great photographer, they were asking their friend to work for free on their special day instead of allowing him to be present so he could just celebrate with them.

And thus, Keri was brought on board.

When we chatted about their ceremony, it was all about no fuss and really celebrating the life they have already built together. They wanted just their close-knit group of friends to celebrate with them somewhere beautiful and fun, which is why they chose to elope in LA!

For the first hour Keri and I were there, Stephen and Paul just wanted us to hang out with them for their photos. We had a blast chatting with them and their wonderfully funny friends about life and how their trip to Los Angeles was going.

They were so much fun! But finally, the nerves had calmed enough that it was time to head down to the beach to have the ceremony.

This being LA, they even had their very own “paparazzi posse” present…

The ceremony was so them, full of laughter and being together. Here’s a snippet from what I wrote and shared…

Stephen, Paul told me when he first met you, he thought you were funny and so confident. He really thinks you are the most handsome man, but what entranced him is your boyish sense of adventure. He said that if there is a wall or tree to climb, you’ll most likely amble up it. And while he knows he’ll have to suffer through your making up words to songs in your awful American accent…

…he too looks forward to a future of hanging with the dogs in your garden, going for walks and, most importantly, being together as much as possible.

Like I told Paul and Stephen, your elopement can be as epic or as simple as you want it to be. It’s YOUR day, so it should look, sound, and feel like YOU.

Because a love like theirs (and yours!) should be celebrated. 😍
