Tucked away at the peaks of the San Bernardino Mountains, Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear hold a special place in the hearts of all of us from SoCal. It’s both where we go to beat the heat during the summer (it’s always like 10-20 degrees cooler up there) and to see The Snow.

And guess what? These tourist towns also have some of my favorite spots for a beautifully quiet elopement!

Step 1: Choosing a Location

Please note that there are several state parks and beaches in this 90-mile stretch of coastline, which is why I’m going to break it down by park/beach with specific locations listed within that park/beach.

Will Abell Memorial Trail (Lake Arrowhead)

This beautiful little spot is a short but scenic loop trail with a mix of forest and, at the top, a view overlooking Lake Arrowhead itself.

  • Easy to find
  • Lots of trees
  • Easy hiking
  • Dog friendly (on a leash)
  • Paved road, dirt parking
  • 10 minutes from Lake Arrowhead Village
  • Mix of trail, forest, and lake views

Juniper Point (Big Bear)

This is a favorite spot of mine in Big Bear! Juniper Point is well-situated along the lake and meets with the Alpine Pedal Path. Features include:

  • Easy to find
  • Accessible to those with limited mobility
  • Lots of trees
  • Lakeside views
  • Easy wandering and hiking
  • Dog friendly (on a leash)
  • Paved road and paved parking lot
  • Restrooms
  • 15 minutes from Big Bear Village

Heart Rock Trail (Lake Arrowhead)

This is a spot for the intimate and adventurous, as it is on a well-populated loop trail through the forest leading to a waterfall with a heart-shaped hole. The waterfalls are fullest in late spring and early summer. Features include:

  • Moderate crowds
  • Lots of trees
  • Beautiful creek views
  • Easy hiking
  • Dog friendly (on a leash)
  • Paved road and dirt parking (at Camp Seely)
  • 25 minutes from Lake Arrowhead Village

Bear Lake Woodland Trail

This trailhead splits into several trails but the Bear Lake Woodland Trail is a short loop that is very popular year-round with tourists. Features include:

  • A popular spot that is easy to find and easy access
  • Lots of trees
  • Sweeping views of Big Bear Lake
  • Easy hiking
  • Paved road and paved parking
  • Dog friendly (on a leash)
  • Only 15 minutes from Big Bear Village
