What is an Elopement?

Eloping does not mean what it once did! It once meant running away to get married without the knowledge of one’s parents. But modern elopements are a lot less secret and a lot more about saving money and lowering your stress level. Elopements come in three basic flavors…

1. Paperwork only

This is a simple as a no-fuss civil wedding ceremony, also known as a courthouse style ceremony. I call this the simple Marriage License Signing which happens at my office. That means no customized ceremony or unities or prayers, but you can say your own vows if you want.

2. A classic elopement

I call this service the Run Away with Me. This is literally you two and the officiant (me!), and maybe a handful of your nearest and dearest. This can be in your living room, at the beach, or at a gorgeous national park. What is important is that there is no setup! This means no arch/arbor, no music, no aisle to walk down, no guests to worry about feeding and entertaining. Just you two and the small set of people you absolutely must have witness the moment.

3. An adventure elopement

I call this the Epic Elopement Experience. This is usually a destination wedding at a beautiful location (think vacation towns, gorgeous beaches, and national parks) and no set-up. You’ll probably have beautiful clothes and choose a gorgeous untraditional location. You’ll have an officiant (me!) to make it happen and an awesome photographer to document the beauty of the moment. You might have a handful of the people with whom you absolutely have to share the experience. Or we could just traipse off into the wild with just us and the photographer. That’s up to you!
